Band thoughts?
What is the band “sexual purity” considered? Are they goth or more industrial or what ever, I suck at genres

Thoughts on MTV’s new article on goth subculture giving tiktok and ekids credit to make goth trendy again?
https://www.mtv.com/news/ys31wm/goth-tiktok-mareux-awfully-sinister-dusty-gannon
I don't pay much heed to the MTVs music blogs from past a decade or so, but seeing them writing an article about Goth music and subculture after so many years caught my eye. Though the article mentions several new goth bands it also talks about how ekids and tiktok helped goth being into trends again. I personally do not find it actually helping goth being in trends again since goth subculture has always been there thriving in music and scene (though of course not at mainstream level), but also would love to know the community's thoughts on the article 🙂

What are your thoughts?
I am thinking about starting a goth floral shop? All dark and blood red flowers. Of course, we can do other colors, but the main focus is that. I may have different odds and ends of goth culture to sell in the store. But this would have floral arrangements in dark goth style vases. Pick your poison bouquets(where you just pick the flowers and buy them like in Kroger) Seeds and sprouts of the darker flowers to purchase. Goth style vases and then maybe some jewelry, books and music as side items. I would also like to maybe have a room in the back where I can showcase some local goth artists works for sale.
I am working on a business plan now…but I am just wondering if you all thought there might even be enough interest in something like this.

I got into an interesting argument about the goth subculture & curious about others thoughts
I will preface this by saying this was a disagreement on tiktok which sounds so silly and i realize this.
Anyways, this girl posted a makeup look with dark eyeshadow and eyeliner and she put “#gothic” as one of the hashtags. People were grilling her in the comments saying this wasn’t goth, she didn’t look goth, etc. and I personally felt that was wrong. I commented and shared how goth is a music based subculture and that as long as you love the music, know the ideals and history of this subculture, you are goth! The makeup and fashion is just a plus. And I went on to say how there are plenty of folks who are goths and do not look the part (me included most of the time, thanks Covid)
And someone argued with me saying that goths follow a certain aesthetic and the one she’s dressed as is not it. And I said that I understand that but I think there should be more room for individual expression because the typical goth aesthetic is not one size fits all. And then they shot back at me saying things such as “well you can’t wear lip gloss and pink and be considered goth, etc” and I just am wondering where this whole mindset is coming from?
It was really giving off “you don’t look goth enough if you aren’t wearing x/y/z” vibes which I think could give baby bats a bad taste when first entering the subculture. Why can’t we wear pink and lip gloss and still be goths? I ended the argument with a respectful exit but I’m curious what you guys think. I personally think that since the core foundation of goth is music, it shouldn’t matter what you look like. But this is simply my opinion and any other thoughts are welcome! No opinion is wrong, we all have our points of view and I accepted hers with grace even if I disagreed
I also apologize if this is not the right space, please remove if need be!!

Elder goths: What are your thoughts on the state of goth these days? What’s changed? Are you still involved? A brief interview in point form.
I'm most interested in thoughts from those whose taste in music, aesthetic, hobbies, social circles, identities, and/or worldviews developed within the 80s-era goth subculture. Music is the most relevant point of focus, as this subreddit emphasizes.
I'll post something similar next week for people who encountered goth music in the 90s and 00s.
• When did you become involved in the subculture? When were you last significantly invested in it? (If you're part of this demographic and you're reading this post, I can assume some level of interest.)
• Related to previous: Where in the world do you live? Where have you lived?
• Were 80s goths as snarky as I've been told that you were?
• Did you seriously dislike people who smoked clove cigarettes? (I had an elder goth friend who could not STAND people who did.)
• What interests you about everything that's changed since the 80s/90s/00s?
• How often do you attend live shows and/or festivals?
• If you're familiar with post-2000 goth music, which newer bands do you recommend?
• Just for fun: Is your home decor gothic?
Point form answers are fine. So are long answers. Whichever you prefer.
